Kuala Lumpur, Thurs - The New Straits
Times-Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities Scholarship Programme in inviting applications for the second batch of awards.
Closing date is June 30.
According to NST-MAPCU Scholarship Programme Working Committee
chairman Khoo Soo Peng, 52 scholarships have been awarded under
the first batch.
Eighteen private colleges have pledged 86 scholarships worth more
than RM1.65 million to the NST-MAPCU Scholarship Programme
launched early this year.
"The large number of applications has helped MAPCU achieve its
objective of setting up the joint scholarship programme with NST,
which is to provide deserving young Malaysians with excellent
teritary education opportunities," said Khoo.
MAPCU president Tengku Shamsul Bahrin atrributed the rise in
applications to good media coverage and promotion.
"This created awareness among students, parents and teachers of
the comprehensive range of high quality courses offered by MAPCU
member institutions," he said.
Tengku Shamsul believes the news and information on Malaysian and
international education published by newspapers like the New
Straits Times will make the country a regional centre of education
excellence.
The colleges also reported that the quality of the applicants was
excellent.
"This made it a challenge for us to screen and select the
candidates who deserve the awards," said Vijay Reddy of the Asia
Pacific Institute of Information Technology.
Further information on the 2nd batch of awards will be available
in the education pages of the New Straits Times and the New Sunday
Times.
