Strengthening Partnership with US University Posted: 21 December 2009; Category: Campus
Tunku Abdul
Rahman College (TARC) offers flexible pathways to overseas qualifications by
establishing partnerships with universities abroad.
In November this
year, a delegation from TARC comprising Dr Ng Swee Chin, head of the School of Arts and Science, Dr Loke Chui Fung,
head of the Division of Chemistry and Biology, and Mr Chan Fung Lin, the head
of the Division of Microelectronics and Physics paid a visit to Campbell’s Buies Creek
campus.
The group met
with CampbellUniversity provost Dr Dwaine Greene and
Dr Mark Hammond, dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences, to
discuss the upcoming reaffirmation of accreditation through the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
CampbellUniversity has
been involved in a collaborative programme with TunkuAbdulRahmanCollege
since 1979.The purpose of the programme
is to provide a Bachelor of Science degree for selected TARC students. This
fully-accredited programme is a model academic collaboration which provides a much
needed educational opportunity in the sciences for students in Malaysia. Over
11,975 TARC students have received the Bachelor of Science degrees since the
graduation of the first batch of students in 1981.
“We are thrilled
to host our Malaysian guests and colleagues. CampbellUniversity
has been blessed for many years with dedicated partners at TunkuAbdulRahmanCollege.
Jointly, we are truly preparing students for leadership positions and
purposeful lives around the world ”, stated Campbell president Jerry Wallace.
Since 2005, CampbellUniversity has been sending its
professors to TARCollege twice a year as
visiting lecturers. This practice adds a higher dimension to the
programme.Students have been exposed to
different teaching pedagogies and also given a multi-dimensional approach to
different topics of the programme.This
enriches their learning experience and offers them a slice of exposure to a
truly global education.
This programme
has innovatively opened up the opportunity for TARC students to obtain an
overseas qualification at an affordable cost without having to leave the Malaysian
shore.
