Nurturing Scientific Minds at Taylor's
From saving human
lives to developing new drugs and enhancing food quality, the fields of health
and life sciences are rife with innovative and vital endeavours in science and
technology. The continuous advancements create exciting and rewarding
opportunities for students with enquiring scientific minds and a desire to
improve society's quality of life.
Taylor's University's Division of Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences aims to produce well-trained and highly skilled professionals for the medical, pharmaceutical and bioscience industries. Students study in a modern campus that houses an array of purpose-built, sophisticated laboratories for research and practice. Among them are an Anatomy Lab, a Clinical Skills Suite, an Aseptic Suite, a Pharmaceutics Lab, a Proteomics and Genomics Lab and a Food Analysis Facility.
Through our School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy and School of Biosciences, we offer comprehensive degree programmes in medicine, pharmacy, biomedical science, biotechnology and food science & nutrition. With curricula that incorporates dynamic teaching and learning methods, in-depth research and hands-on training, the programmes propel graduates to embark on careers in some of the fastest-growing and in-demand areas in Malaysia and overseas.
School of Medicine – Producing Competent and Caring Physicians
Taylor's School of Medicine aims to be a centre of excellence in early medical education and eventually provide a complete and outstanding medical education programme. Under the tutelage of dedicated and qualified faculty members with a wealth of expertise, students are groomed into skilled and compassionate physicians with a passion to conduct cutting-edge research to advance medical science.

Our Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) enables students to complete their medical degree locally. This two-phase programme incorporates a hybrid curriculum that embraces both traditional and integrated problem-based approach of teaching. In phase I (two years), students gain fundamental knowledge of medical science, clinical exposure and research experience. In phase II (three years), they undertake clinical rotations at hospitals in urban and rural settings, as well as explore areas of specialisations. MBBS graduates will receive temporary registration with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and must work as house officers for two years in the Ministry of Health before obtaining full registration status. During this period, they will undergo four months of supervised internship in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics and emergency medicine.
Students who prefer to complete their degree abroad can complete phase I at Taylor's, while phase II continues at our partner medical school, St. George's University of London, UK.
School of Pharmacy – Leading the Forefront of Pharmaceutical Discovery
Taylor's School of Pharmacy is committed to promote pharmacy education, produce leaders in pharmacy practice and advance research in the field. We train students to become independent learners who possess the knowledge and ability to develop and use medications for the betterment of patients.

In collaboration with Cardiff University's Welsh School of Pharmacy, we offer the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) and Master of Pharmacy (Hons), which give students the flexibility to study in Malaysia or abroad. The Welsh School of Pharmacy is one of UK's leading pharmacy schools. It is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and recognised by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia.
The first two years of both programmes are taught at Taylor's. For the third and final year, students can choose to remain at Taylor's and graduate with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) and Diploma in Higher Education in Pharmaceutical Studies (awarded by Cardiff), or transfer to Cardiff and graduate with a Master of Pharmacy (Hons). Upon graduation, graduates can begin the process of becoming a registered pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia and/or the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, UK respectively.

Taught by a group of qualified and experienced academics, the programmes incorporate industry-relevant materials, hands-on learning, research and development activities and exposure to international best practices. The central focus of both programmes is on the patient in terms of the application of knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences. They cover four main themes, namely Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Delivery and Pharmacy Practice.
School of Biosciences – Advancing Life Science Discovery and Innovation
Taylor's School of Biosciences challenges students to explore important disciplines in the life science field, namely biomedical science, biotechnology and food science in a stimulating and supportive learning environment. We strategically focus on the latest cutting-edge biosciences research and transfer it into the classroom to educate, train and transform students to be innovative and creative in science – always striving to carry out in-depth research studies and develop groundbreaking scientific solutions to improve the world's living environment.

Our strength lies in our faculty members' passion for teaching and research. They engage in a wide variety of research, ranging from using natural remedies to treat illnesses; developing new, alternative natural products to improve health conditions; and promoting environmental health by introducing innovative methods to save energy resources and detect microbial contaminants in our water and food systems. Their complementary expertise facilitates dynamic collaborations and a vibrant research and development culture.

We offer three degree programmes:
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) - Exposes students to the latest information and technology in medicine, health sciences and biomedical science research; includes thorough exploration of several essential topics, such as anatomy, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, physiology and legal, social and ethical issues.
- Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons) - Gives students a comprehensive education and training in the core aspects of biotechnology; involves the study of scientific principles and knowledge; bio-information technologies; laboratory techniques in research and development; business and entrepreneurship skills; and legal, intellectual, social and ethical issues.
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) (Food Science)- Emphasises the science and technology of food creation, processing and preservation, as well as the use of nutrition to improve health; equips students with scientific knowledge to develop innovative, safe and healthy food products; ability to advise and provide nutritional information for individuals or groups; and entrepreneurial skills to set up food-related business ventures.
These programmes develop students with a high level of scientific knowledge, an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to think critically, solve problems effectively and communicate succinctly. Upon graduation, they are ready to become influential agronomists, biophysicists, botanists, clinical researchers, medical technologists, food technologists and more.
