Melaka-Manipal Medical College
conceived from the ‘Look East Policy’ of the former Prime
Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who recognised
the need for greater South-South cooperation in the
economic, education and social sectors in line with the
government’s objective of making the country a leading
educational hub in the region. MMMC is the first Indo-
Malaysian joint venture in private (professional) medical
education and was established with the full support
of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health. The
college also had the support of experienced medical
educationists from Manipal University who helped in the
implementation of the medical programme.

Both the medical and dental programmes are conducted
in collaboration with the renowned Manipal University,
India. Manipal University is recognised for imparting
high quality professional education and has been the
preferred destination for students from over 50 countries.
The university has 20 constituent colleges that offer over
195 courses across 14 streams, including medicine,
dentistry, engineering, nursing, allied health, pharmacy,
life sciences, management, mass communication,
information science, hotel management, regenerative
medicine, geopolitics, cultural studies and many more.
The Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS) the
first private dental college in India and a constituent
college of Manipal University was established in the
year 1965 and stands as one of the finest centres of oral
health care and dental education. The college was in
June 2009 ranked as the No. 1 dental college in India
by Outlook, the weekly News Magazine, June 22, 2009
issue. To date, Manipal University provides the finest in
education to over 15,000 students every year. It also has
an active alumni base of over 65,000 students across the
The facilities in both the Manipal and Melaka campus
is second to none, including various teaching and
learning facilities, auditoriums, lecture halls, classrooms,
science labs, skill labs, library and computer labs. Other
amenities include student hostels, cafeterias,
gymnasium, swimming pool, sauna, squash courts,
football field and basketball court.

Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) In
Collaboration with Manipal University, India [KPT (JPS)
MMMC offers a 5 year twinning programme of 10
semesters leading to the MBBS degree awarded by
Manipal University. The first phase of 2 ½ years (5
semesters) is conducted in the Manipal Campus in
India which has excellent facilities for teaching of Basic
Sciences in terms of infrastructure, museums, skill labs
and experienced faculty. The basic sciences and preclinical
subjects are covered in 4 semesters. During the 5th
semester, students commence their clinical training. This
semester in India exposes them to the morbidity profile
related to the prevailing socio-economic conditions.
The second phase of 5 semesters (2½ years) is at the
Melaka Campus, Malaysia. Students continue with their
clinical training at the Melaka General Hospital, Muar
Hospital and at the Community Health Centres.
Students are admitted in two batches annually in March
and September. The eligibility criteria are based on the
guidelines of the regulatory bodies in Malaysia and
admission is based on merit. The academic programme is
student-centred with emphasis on self-directed learning,
group discussions and problem solving.
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) In Collaboration with
Manipal University, India [KP (JPS) 600-03/542 (97)]
The dental programme is a 5 year academic programme
leading to the BDS degree which is awarded by Manipal
University. The first two years is conducted in Manipal,
India and the final three years conducted in Melaka,
Malaysia. The basic sciences and pre-clinical subjects
are covered in Phase 1 and in the 2nd phase the
student commence their clinical training.

MMMC campus is backed by world class infrastructure
to ensure that all students who come here get inspired
to pursue their career with zest and passion. The facilities
cater to both the teaching and learning facilities as well
as their recreational requirements, by providing facilities
and amenities for students’ comfort and well-being while
in campus. Every teaching and learning centre is wellequipped
with the appropriate facilities to provide both
teachers and students the best environment.
Academic facilities include lecture theatres, tutorial rooms,
laboratories and a fully-equipped library.
Information Technology – Melaka Manipal Medical College
(MMMC) takes technology as a key factor to facilitate
the teaching and learning process and to create techno
savvy environment for students. Therefore we ensure that
the Information Technology System and facilities are up to
date and accessible by the students.
Student Support Services & Student

Activities are handled by the office of the Deputy Registrar.
Students are assisted both in their personal and
professional development. Other main services include :
Admission & Counseling – Student Services Executives
will provide a complete and thorough explanation of
the courses offered, handle enrolment and provide
other relevant information i.e. fees, scholarships, loan
International Students & Visa Requirements – The
Student Services Department has dedicated staff that are
at hand to advice students on their visa applications.
Other student services available include :
Food Services – A cafeteria is attached to the student’s
hostel, which serves a variety of menu for the needs of
different groups of students. It is open from 6.30 am to
Recreational Facilities – Students can enjoy a wide
variety of recreational facilities such as indoor games
like table tennis and badminton, gym, swimming pool,
squash courts, aerobics room, sauna, basketball court,
hockey court, football field, volley ball / net ball courts
and tennis courts.
Hostel – There are adequate hostel rooms for all students
provided in campus. The hostel rooms provided are airconditioned,
fully furnished with attached bathroom.
Washing machines and dryer are available at every

on their academic and co-curricular achievements.
Enquiries about grants and sponsorship should be made
directly to the sponsoring agencies as the college is
unable to provide financial support for students except for
a small number of highly deserving cases.
International Recognition &
The MBBS degree is recognised by the Malaysian Medical
Council (MMC) and Sri Lankan Medical Council. MMMC
is also listed in the World directory of medical schools
published by the WHO as well as IMED (the International
Medical Education Directory).
