Formerly known as Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (KYPM), the premier community college in Malaysia was incorporated as a private higher educational institution under the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555) in September 2003. Managed by Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), KPTM embodies and delivers reputable education in information technology, computer science, accounting, business management, health sciences, build environment and professional courses.
Our proud history and solid foundation will drive continuous educational growth into the future. In recent times, we have extended our quality programmes to all individuals. Our absolute commitment is to provide opportunities for individuals to gain easy access to holistic education and training towards the establishment of a knowledge-based society.
Vision
A National and Regional Higher Institution of Choice
Mission
KPTM is a higher education institution of
choice which provides holistic, quality and
affordable education towards producing
knowledge workers
Our History
The College originated in September
1983 with the establishment of Kolej
Yayasan Pelajaran MARA Kuantan. It is a
premier community college that started
off by offering bachelor twinning degree
programmes, namely, American Associate
Degree (AAD). The programme was
recognised by more than 75 universities
in the United States and New Zealand.
The remarkable achievements of AAD
then generated other international
strategic collaborations with the Northern
Consortium of United Kingdom (1988),
Australian Consortium of Higher Education
in Malaysia (1992) and British Consortium for
Higher Education in Malaysia (1994). These
success stories led to the College’s first
professional programme in collaboration
with the Accountancy and Business College,
Dublin (now known as Dublin Business
School) in 1993.
The commencement of these twinning programmes led to the opening of the College’s new campuses i.e. Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA Bangi (1988), Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA Kuala Lumpur (1992), and Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA Kota Bharu (1994).
Besides international collaborations, the College has also established local affiliation programmes with first-rate public and private universities such as Universiti Teknologi MARA (1994), Universiti Putra Malaysia (1995), Universiti Malaya (1995), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (1996), Universiti Sains Malaysia (1996), Universiti Multimedia (1998), Universiti Utara Malaysia (1999) and Pusat Matrikulasi Kementerian Pendidikan (1999).
In its pursuit for excellence, KPTM acknowledges the importance of developing its own programmes or homegrown programmes. The College therefore took the lead in initiating its homegrown programmes in the fields of Computer Science, Information Technology, Accounting, Health Sciences, and Business Management at degree, diploma and certificate level.
