About SEGi University & Colleges

SEGi University & Colleges first opened its doors as Systematic College in 1977 in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s commercial district, offering globally recognised professional qualifications. Since then, SEGi has experienced significant growth by adapting and catering to the increasing demand for tertiary education and professional qualifications in Malaysia. As one of the nation’s largest private higher education providers SEGi has hosted some of the best graduates from diverse backgrounds with a concrete foundation of more than 40 years. The products of SEGi's coaching have since become leaders of industries. In 1977, SEGi University Group (SEGi) was known as Systematic College. Since then, they have been meeting the increasing demand for high academic and professional qualifications – resulting in a string of successes in the educational field. Today, the Group boasts an impressive number of young learners, as many as 20,000, in five major campuses located in the Klang Valley, Penang and Sarawak.

Clubs and Societies

The formation of clubs and societies is to create a sense of belonging within the campus environment. The Clubs and Societies form the basis of instilling leadership qualities, personal development and other and soft skills. Students are taught to view these clubs and societies as small companies. They will be exposed to handling crisis management, event planning, people management, logistics planning and other approaches related to working in an organisation.

Sport Recreation

At SEGi, we do not just focus on the intellectual ability but also on the physical well-being of a student. Our students are challenged to maintain a balance between academic studies and sports activities and thus encouraged to join one of many sports clubs.

SEGi University is actively involved in sports events organised by the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (MAPCU), Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia (MASISWA) and Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (SUKIPT). These events create a winning edge for our students in showing their potential through physical training and coaching, mental stability and discipline.

Skills Training

Soft skills development is an essential complement for students who enter the workforce with their technical skills. At SEGi, we want to create holistic students with both a good grade point average and materialise and actualise their ideas. Through their student development activities, students are provided with skill training in areas like:

Counselling

Students come to them for many reasons. They are here to listen to the students and help students on issues like the conflict with their friends, loneliness, depression and other university concerns. Whatever the student’s situation is, SEGi counsellors treat their feelings and stories with respect. Every personal story will be strictly confidential within the Counseling Unit.

Various efforts have been made continuously to reach out by taking into consideration the students’ emotional health. SEGi services include personal mental health counselling, on-site emotional support, and immediate psychological first aid or assistance that helps individuals deal with the crisis. SEGi also organises talks and activities that raise awareness of mental health issues, mental health-related events and workshops that seek to enhance students’ social skills and techniques to cope with challenges.

In addition, SEGi’s Counseling unit has established the Peer Counselors group. The team is trained with basic counselling skills to help students face emotional issues by providing peer support.

The student counsellors under the Student Affairs Department are certified and registered counsellors under the Malaysian Board of Counselors who abide by the codes of ethics under the Counselors Act 1998.

Accommodation

SEGi University provides accommodation on campus and off-campus. The on-campus accommodation is a dormitory-style with common sharing of the bath. The basic facilities are provided to ensure students are comfortable and have the necessary facilities to carry out their studies. Students can choose types of rooms based on their comfortability. Our service centre operates 24 hours a day to assist students on daily matters, upkeep and maintenance of the units will be provided, and cleaning services for the common area will be provided. Students do not have to worry about the distance between accommodation and campus as we provide shuttle service to and from campus during peak hours.

Recognition and accreditation

SEGi is considered the MOST WINS PRIVATE INSTITUTION as they received six (6) recognition from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia for the assessment year 2018/2019, namely:

1. SETARA 2018/2019 5-star rating for SEGi University in the Emerging universities (Universities that have been established within the last 15 years) category
2. MyQUEST 2018/2019 6-star rating for SEGi College Subang Jaya in the Large (Enrolment > 2000 students) category
3. MyQUEST 2018/2019 6-star rating for SEGi College Kota Damansara in the Medium (Enrolment 601-1999 students) category
4. MyQUEST 2018/2019 6-star rating for SEGi College Pulau Pinang in the Medium (Enrolment 601-1999 students) category
5. MyQUEST 2018/2019 6-star rating for SEGi College Sarawak in the Small (Enrolment < 600 students) category
6. MyQUEST 2018/2019 5-star rating for SEGi College Kuala Lumpur in the Large (Enrolment > 2000 students) category

With these recognitions, SEGi sealed its position as the “Most Wins Private Institution” for the assessment year 2018/2019. Additionally, SEGi University emerged in the top 45% of the 2021 QS World University Rankings: Asia.

Scholarships and financial aid

SEGi has offered more than RM100 million worth of scholarships for the past 44 years. More awards are in order throughout the year. Scholarships and financial aid provided are an opportunity not to be missed, especially for those who strive for distinguished visibility. Scholarships such as SEGi High Achievers Scholarship (HAS) for those SPM/O-Levels, STPM/Local Matriculation/A-Levels, and UEC school leavers that successfully achieved outstanding results are entitled to the High Achievers Scholarship (HAS) when they register to enrol into SEGi.

Talented Malaysian athletes who participate at State or National level sporting events are eligible for our SEGI Sports Scholarship that has more than 50% rebate on tuition fees.

Key Personnel

Ms. Hew Moi Lan Group Executive Director/Group CEO , SEGi University & Colleges Ms. Hew Moi Lan was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2010 and is a member of the Risk Management Committee and Executive Committee of the company. She became the Group CEO in 2009 and assumed her responsibilities in 2012. Prior to that, she was the Vice President of Operations and the Principal of SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, one of the core subsidiary companies of the Group. With almost 34 years of being part of SEGi University & Colleges since 1986, Ms. Hew Moi Lan has a deep attachment and love for one of the most established institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. Her mission is to ensure SEGi University continues to grow from strength to strength and each of its students succeed in achieving their study goals and dream careers. She is guided by strong core values – transparency, accountability, and truth, on her daily dealings and operations. Throughout her service to SEGi University & Colleges, Ms. Hew Moi Lan has brought an immense wealth of experience and knowledge into the running of the Group. She strongly believes that education is integral in a person’s life as it affects his/her future and providing a solid education and opportunities to the future generation who will one day become leaders of the country is one of her greatest contributions to the education industry and to her beloved institution.
