Y.B. Prof. Datuk Dr. Ismail bin Md. Salleh

President of Persatuan Kebangsaan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta Bumiputera Malaysia

On behalf of the Persatuan Kebangsaan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta Bumiputera Malaysia (PKIBM), I would like to congratulate Challenger Concept (M) Sdn. Bhd. for the successful publishing of the most comprehensive directory in the market for higher education industry, that is, the 11th edition of the Education Guide Malaysia. This is a well-researched guidebook and is useful to all stakeholders of Malaysian higher education.

The main objective of PKIBM is to assist our member institutions to continually expand tertiary educational opportunities and to make study options accessible to all students, with special focus on increasing the enrolment of Bumiputra students. Our member institutions employ a non-discriminatory policy with regard to student intake into institutions of higher learning. Hence, all students are duly welcome irrespective of their race or nationality.

The association is committed to helping the government realise the second thrust of the 9th Malaysia Plan, that is raising the capacity for knowledge and innovation and nurturing 'a first class mentality'. PKIBM is also focusing on the seven strategic thrusts of the 'Strategic Plan For Higher Education: Laying The Foundation Beyond 2020' which include uplifting the standard of higher education; widening access and enhancing equity; enculturation of lifelong learning; improving the quality of teaching and learning; enhancing research and innovation; and intensifying internationalisation.

PKIBM members offer tertiary programmes at various levels - Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor's Degree, in collaboration with public universities and foreign universities as well as through the members' own 'internal' programmes.

We collaborate in 'smart partnership' with the government and support its numerous agencies, such as the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, to make Malaysia a Centre of Educational Excellence in the region. We also work closely with various funding agencies so that academically-inclined students who are less fortunate can have access to tertiary education through the agencies' financial assistance schemes.

We would like to applaud Challenger Concept for their untiring efforts in producing this higher education guidebook for the industry, together with the associated website www.studymalaysia.com, the monthly e-newsletter StudyGuardian, and for the many inroads that they have carved and created in promoting study opportunities in Malaysia.

Thank you.
