Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. Zulkefli bin A. Hassan

Secretary-General, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia

The publication of the "Study in Malaysia Handbook (International Edition)" and the corresponding website www.StudyMalaysia.com by Challenger Concept (M) Sdn Bhd have complemented the efforts of the Higher Education Ministry in promoting Malaysia as a preferred destination for international students in pursuing tertiary education.

Malaysia is poised to be the centre of educational excellence in this region. There are many top notch international schools, colleges and universities that offer internationally-recognised qualifications for international students. These include four reputable foreign university branch campuses in Malaysia, four research-intensive public universities, four broad-based public universities, 12 specialised public universities as well as 34 private universities and about 180 private colleges.

Malaysia is becoming more attractive to international students as it offers them comprehensive quality education at an affordable price. The international community will find Malaysia a hospitable and safe place to be, with many options of study at all levels of education. At tertiary level, Malaysia offers a wide selection of foreign university degree qualifications such as the fully-taught foreign university degree, the 3+0 franchised degree arrangement as well as twinning degree programmes (such as 2+1 arrangements with reputable universities). The Malaysian public and private universities also offer high quality and industry-driven home-grown degree programmes.

Malaysia is already housing a varied student population from more than 100 countries such as Indonesia, China, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Bangladesh, Maldives, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, India, Australia and many other parts of the world. The multiracial nature of the country and its population provides an excellent environment for cultural exchange and enhances understanding between different nationalities.

Lastly, I wish to applaud the publisher's contributions for the benefit of international students and their efforts deserve my Ministry's continuous support.

Thank you.
