Mother’s Day Celebration by OSIM Malaysia & Dasein Academy

Kuala Lumpur, May 2019 – The students from Dasein Academy of Art were invited by OSIM Malaysia, Asia’s leading healthy lifestyle products retailer to provide sketching and caricature for their shoppers in conjunction with their Mother’s Day celebration and promotion recently at 1 Utama Shopping Centre on 11 and 12 May 2019.

Students from the college’s Fine Art, Illustration and Animation programs took part in the event and produced countless caricature and cartoon drawings for mothers and children who visited the booth located at OSIM Malaysia’s roadshow. From quick observation, to simple sketches and bold strokes – the shoppers watched the drawing process in delight as they waited patiently for their turn for a cartoon-version of themselves and their children to be illustrated by the students.

Children also enjoyed colouring postcards guided by the college’s students as a meaningful take-home gift for their parents in celebration of Mother’s Day. “The colouring session with the children is very fun and exciting,” exclaimed Ong Sue Jee, a Fine Art student at Dasein Academy of Art. “But I learnt the most when I had to draw under pressure in public, this is very different from drawing in a classroom. It took me a while to find my footing and confidence, but meeting and observing strangers and eventually drawing them can be quite challenging and satisfying!”

Speaking about this collaboration with OSIM Malaysia, Mr Gooi Hean Chye, the president of Dasein Academy of Art said that, “We always encourage our students to step out of their comfort zone and try something new – be it a different environment or even a different artistic style. Art and design is a discovery process, there are bound to be errors and mistakes but one should not be afraid to try and unearth their creative best at all times.”
