255 Sunway FIA graduates pursue their dreams

255 students from the Sunway College Foundation in Arts (FIA), a home-grown pre-university programme recently completed the pre-university programme and will be advancing to universities of their choice to continue their undergraduate studies.

The top students from the January and March intakes respectively are Chong Wen Yen and Priscilla Edna Moreira. Chong Wen Yen achieved an aggregate of 91.25% and Priscilla Edna Moreira achieved an aggregate of 86.10%. Each also received the Special Award of Achievement, an award that recognises outstanding achievement.

Jefferd Tan Quan Sheng, Tham Kar Kei and Keith Siah Kien Yoong received the Appreciation Award for their outstanding contributions towards extra-curricular activities in the FIA programme.

160 students also received the Tan Sri Dato Seri (Dr) Jeffrey Cheah Continuing Scholarship, a scholarship offered to all high-achieving Sunway pre-university, foundation and diploma students progressing into undergraduate programmes at Sunway University.

Jeffred Tan Quan Sheng, student representative of the January 2012 batch said in his speech, “Always remember that we are from FIA and we are proud to graduate from this course.” Benedict Shii Chuan-Kiat, student representative of the March 2012 said, “There was so much that I have learnt throughout this course. I didn’t know about the world around me. But through these enrichment subjects and projects, we have learnt everything. I was also clueless as to where I wanted to go in life. But upon entering this programme, my lecturers have not only given me an enriching experience but a vivid idea of what to pursue.” Benedict was also a recipient of the Special Award of Achievement for the March intake.

Ruma Lopes, Programme Director of FIA at Sunway College said in her speech, “Your teachers have nothing but good words to say about you. You are all going to be exceptional in life and you know your place in this changing world. I know all of you are exceptionally capable students and we want to see you move on to our Sunway programmes. But come back and tell us as friends how to make the next generation of FIA students better.”

Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group advised the students, “Always have faith in your abilities, be guided by your values and never lose sight of your goals.”
