May 22, 2013 | Campus News
  • Accelerated pathway into the ACCA Qualification for KDU’s unique three-year Bachelor of Accounting programme
  • KDU UC was presented with the Platinum status for the ACCA Approved Learning Partner-Student Tuition scheme

24 April 2013, Petaling Jaya

KDU University College (KDU UC) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) signed a Memorandum of Agreement today which provides its accounting degree students with an accelerated pathway into the ACCA Qualification in the final year of their studies. This agreement follows a collaboration established last year where KDU UC and ACCA agreed to work together to develop a unique three-year accounting degree programme which incorporates the ACCA syllabus.

This new three-year accounting degree programme is expected to be launched in August 2013, in which students can claim nine paper exemptions from ACCA – the maximum number of exemptions provided by ACCA – and proceed to take up the Professional papers of the ACCA Qualification in the final year of their studies. Hence, students who opt into this pathway can simultaneously earn the ACCA Qualification as well as KDU UC’s Bachelor of Accounting degree.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, ACCA’s chief executive, Helen Brand, said, “This conditional exemption is the first of its kind in Malaysia that ACCA offers for a three-year Bachelor of Accounting programme. As the leading global body for professional accountants, ACCA is dedicated to work with strategic partners to groom the next generation of business leaders. This latest collaboration demonstrates our confidence in KDU UC’s ability to nurture our future ACCA members to be complete finance professionals – that is, professionals equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills across all aspects of finance and business.”

This agreement was signed at a special ceremony where ACCA also presented KDU UC with the Platinum seal of approval in the ACCA Learning Partners (ALP) – Student Tuition scheme, the highest and most prestigious level of approval for universities and colleges globally under ACCA’s ALP programme.

Professor Khong Yoon Loong, Vice Chancellor of KDU UC, said, “KDU UC’s partnership with ACCA is an important foundation behind KDU UC’s ability to continuously produce ambitious and talented professionals in the accounting industry. For KDU UC to receive this prestigious accolade is also attributable to our team of dedicated and passionate lecturers who take pride in what they do.”

To be considered for the Platinum level of recognition, Approved Learning Partners must meet the challenging performance targets to attain Gold approval first. The Approved Learning Partner must also meet further targets relating to the way the institution is run and how the ACCA courses are delivered. A Platinum-approved institution must demonstrate that their students’ examination results consistently meet pass-rate targets set by ACCA.

With this latest award, KDU UC is recognized to be a leading provider of high-quality learning and support that they offer ACCA students in Malaysia.
