Stunning Increase In Number Of Researchers

MELAKA, July 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has increased the number of researchers by 58.2 per cent to 73,752 out of 12.7 million people in the workforce in 11 years from 2000, said Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah.

He said the number of those involved in research and development (R&D) rose from 67,412 in the previous year and 53,304 in 2009. 

He said of the total number of researchers in 2011, 26,563 people or 36.02 per cent were involved in natural science followed by engineering and technology (29.93%), social sciences (12.08%), medical sciences and healthcare (11.63%), agriculture science (4.63%), and humanities (5.72%).
