July 18, 2013 | Campus News

DISTED College Diploma in Hospitality Business Management graduate, Jannie Tang Jia Ern, is among the 4 young talents inducted into Hard Rock Hotel Penang’s maiden 15-month management trainee programme which began last April.

“Our Talent Development Programme has been designed to develop bright young people for assistant restaurant manager and front office duty manager positions in Hard Rock Hotel Penang and in hotels within the HPL H&R Group.

“They were chosen to participate in our fast-track career development programme after attending rounds of pre-selection assessments and interviews,” said Thomas Ch’ng, Hard Rock Hotel Penang director of human resources.

“At the end of the training, we will select the best 2 talents who will assume the positions of assistant restaurant manager and duty manager at Hard Rock Hotel Penang,” he added.

As to how she succeeded in securing a place in the training stint, Jannie Tang said: “I think I managed to convey to the selection panel my passion to work in the food and beverage area.”

“The ability to communicate well in English and having good inter-personal skills too are important,” she remarked.

While studying at the DISTED, Jannie Tang showed good leadership and was keenly involved in extramural events management.

For instance, she was the assistant secretary of the Bike Hour Ride event last year which attracted the participation of 391 people from children and teenagers to adults and the elderly, who cycled 7km around the George Town heritage enclave to make a statement for healthy lifestyle, the environment and charity good deed.
