The One Academy Multimedia Graduates Gets “OWESOME” with Latest Mobile App!

3 outstanding The One Academy Multimedia Design graduates were part of an app developer team to create ‘Owe$ome’; a new mobile app that helps with managing bills and sort expenses. . The team submitted their app design to Hackathon, a multimedia and new media event by AngelHack, the largest hackathon competition in the world. The team won GRAND PRIZE in the Malaysian AngelHack competition! 

How often you have encountered situations where you forgotten to pay someone after having dinner with your friends or simply to collect lunch money that your friend owed you? Well, the scheduled launch ‘Owe$ome’ will definitely help you to discover new ways in managing shared bills.

The creative graduates who are part of the ingenious idea consist of Project Manager Tan Sue Lin, Front-end developer Shaiianne On and Design whiz Lee Chien Chien, together with their other team Joann Soon, Founder & Creative Director of Owe$ome, Tech lead Gan Chu Hang and Copywriter & Marketing Zahir Mazlan.

Among the team are 3 talented young developers who are previously Multimedia Design graduates from The One Academy. During their college days at The One Academy, some of these students were once active participants in local and international design competitions, and some have emerged as winners before in competitions such as at the Malaysians Unite for Road Safety (MUFORS) or International Student Animation Festival event Aniwow! 2009.

According to the team, the creative mobile app is scheduled to launch in mid of August 2013.

“Owe$ome app is a bill separator that not only scans and stores bills but also provide options on how to collect money owed,” the team shared. Owe$ome app include features that will enable to individuals to sort bills, especially for group of friends who “go dutch” or share expenses when travelling, eating out and more.

“Our management believed in the app and us, and have propelled us into furthering into this,” said the team. As multimedia design graduates, their contribution to the creative field is more than just making a career in it. “Our aim is to create ideas that can simplify lives,” and this has kept them inspired in being creators.

The Owe$ome app helps track one’s spending by just snapping a picture of the bill and tag his friends. A cute reminder will automatically appear promoting others to pay the owing sum. Combined with user-focused design, it heightens Owe$ome app among mobile phone users nowadays by providing them with practical yet fun way of managing their bills!

AngelHack is an educational technology events company that seeks to empower entrepreneurs and accelerate their start-up ideas through its annually held Hackathon. A Hackathon is an event in which graphic designers, interface designers and project managers collaborate on software projects.

Being the winner from 30 other teams in the Malaysian AngelHack competition, the team is set to contest at the global level in Silicon Valley this coming September.

Afters year of gaining knowledge at The One Academy and active participation in showcasing their artworks, these graduates from The One Academy can expect to look forward to expand themselves in the creative community in Malaysia. It is remarkable how these young emerging creative entrepreneurs still contribute their talents and skills to achieve towards building a creative nation even after graduation.
