Achieving excellence at SEGi University Group

SEGi University Group has been providing top-notch education for the past 36 years, since its first operations as Systematic College. Now SEGi operates five campuses across the Klang Valley, Penang and Kuching.

To propel SEGi as the premier education provider in the country, SEGi has established Centres of Excellence or CoEs. The aim of the CoEs is to build upon strong foundations and transform the respective campuses from a generalist institution into eight specialist CoEs, with each campus specialising in its own fields of study. By focusing on their areas of strength and leading the development and improvement of the faculties, the CoEs will be able to deliver a superior education experience for students at SEGi. These CoEs will mirror SEGi’s objective in producing students and graduates who are career-ready, and are recognised by the industry and professional bodies, both in Malaysia and overseas. 

To ensure the programmes have the most competitive edge in line with market demands, SEGi has engaged industry experts who are renowned in their respective fields to be industry advisors and ambassadors for SEGi. The role of these advisors is to contribute towards the development and improvement of the syllabi to ensure the programmes meet industry needs as well as to engage with the students though talks, guest lectures and industry placement.

To date, there are four CoEs:

Faculty of Business & Accountancy (CoE champion – SEGi College Kuala Lumpur)

SEGi College KL enhances student learning experience via special programmes while also encouraging and guiding students to participate in industry-organised competitions at the national level.

Recently, an additional RM4 million has been allocated for the development of hardware and software relevant to Business & Accountancy programmes at SEGi College KL.

One of the industry advisors is Nicholas Bloy, Co-Founder, Managing Partner and Director of Navis Capital Partners, a leading private equity specialist in the region.

Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism (CoE champion - SEGi College Kuala Lumpur)

SEGi has up to 75 hotel affiliated partners to provide internship and employment opportunities to its H&T students. More partnerships or affiliations will be set up with organisations in tourism and event management.

Currently SEGi College KL has a mock fine dining restaurant, mock hotel rooms and a kitchen which fulfills the requirements for the teaching of hospitality, culinary cooking technique, international cuisine, Asian cuisine and baking. New facilities to aid the teaching-learning of Hospitality and Tourism programmes will be added soon, including a pastry kitchen and a deli restaurant.

Industry advisors include celebrity chef, Dato’ Chef Ismail, UiTM and the Citin Group.

Faculty of Creative Arts & Design (CoE champion - SEGi College Subang Jaya) 

Malaysia’s leading creative personality, Marini Ramlan, is the Industry Advisor to the Faculty. Nini, as she is popularly known, will share her vast experience in the creative and broadcasting industries with students in the Faculty by holding periodic talks there. Marini is also Head of Content Innovation at Primeworks Studios, a TV production company and subsidiary of Media Prima.

Faculty of Early Childhood Care & Education (CoE champion - SEGi College Subang Jaya)

To raise the bar for Early Childhood and Care Education programmes, SEGi launched the following initiatives: 

1.     Edupreneuer Fund, where seed money is given to chosen candidates to open and manage their own childcare enrichment centres. Parents can now be assured of having qualified tutors and guardians to watch over their children. Children will also benefit from having guidance in their studies from expert tutors and be cared for by trained child minders while their parents are at work.

2.     Principal’s Scholarship Fund, where educators from pre-schools, primary and secondary schools can obtain scholarships to pursue further education.
