Inspiration for the Little Ones at INTI Children’s Camp

July 2, 2014 | Campus News
Children’s Camp, a long running social responsibility initiative by Leo Club of INTI International University, recently saw over 100 children from five orphanages learning, playing and acquiring the warm and lasting friendship of an older ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ at the varsity.

An annual event in its tenth instalment, the Camp provided an opportunity for the children to express their creativity and talent through games, team building activities and performances involving singing and dancing. More than 200 INTI students volunteered as camp facilitators and the children’s guardians in the 3-day 2-night event.

“I’m proud of the fact that there are many students who want to make a difference in the lives of others who are less fortunate. To have so many come forward and volunteer goes to show that we have a lot of heart as a student community,” said Leo Club president Yugaataran Muniandy.

Organizing chairperson Jehane Ackburally summed up her experience with Children’s Camp as both inspiring and humbling. Having worked hard with her team for over 4 months to prepare for the event, Jehane was gratified that it had touched many lives and brought joy to the children involved.

“Seeing the children’s enthusiasm as they played and learned, and the happy faces all round made me appreciate all the privileges I enjoy,” said Jehane, an international student from Mauritius.

Despite their short time together, the children and their facilitators were able to create a special bond and there were teary eyes as the camp came to an end. Promises were made to keep in touch via social media until the next opportunity to meet again.

Passion for community service and giving back to society has seen many INTI students participating in charitable events and societies on and off campus. With strong support from faculty, they are given proper guidance in realizing their various initiatives to help the local community.

Coupled with the right academic delivery and readily available cutting-edge facilities, INTI students are able to further enhance their learning experience by translating classroom and extracurricular activities into real life initiatives. These lead to their acquisition of firsthand experience in event management, communication strategies and leadership development.
