Miri – 29 September 2014 – Over 100 delegates are expected to attend an international symposium on management education being held at the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this 2 and 3 October 2014.

The symposium is being organised by Curtin Sarawak’s School of Business in collaboration with the Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development (IMED), Bharati Vidyapeeth University of India. The delegates will comprise both academics from universities, colleges and institutions in East Malaysia and management consultants and the paper presenters will be from both Curtin Sarawak and Bharati Vidyapeeth University.

The first day of the symposium, which will include a welcoming dinner for the delegates, will be held at Grand Palace Hotel while the second day’s events will take place at The Auditorium, Curtin Sarawak campus. 

The keynote address on the first day will be delivered by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Chief Executive Officer of Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), Senator Dato’ Sri Idris Jala. 

Also expected to attend is the Chair of the Curtin Sarawak Council, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam; Chair of the Curtin Sarawak Management Board, Datuk Lee Kim Shin; Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Mienczakowski; and representatives of the event sponsors, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Crowe Horwath, KPMG and the Office of Research & Development, Curtin Sarawak.

Themed ‘Management Education: Towards Achieving Global Standards and Recognition’, the symposium will include sub-themes such as social transformation through management education, governance of management education, globalisation of management education, pedagogies and theories of management education, the role of management education in economic development, the future of management education, management education relevant to corporate needs, modern tools for management education, e-learning initiatives, entrepreneurship and management education, and best practices in management education.

The aim of the symposium to provide a forum for academics and researchers to exchange ideas and discuss developments in all aspects of teaching and learning in business and management education. It will also be an opportunity for the delegates to establish future collaborations, particularly in research and development. 

Other objectives include discussing recent trends, market dynamics, relevant skill sets, and issues and challenges faced in relation to management education; exchanging ideas and views about current management education practices, standards and recognition across the globe; discussing current management programmes in business schools and matching them to industry requirements; and developing a roadmap for management education best practices.
