SCORE forum at Curtin Sarawak provides insights into state’s energy resources and related industries

Miri – 2 April 2015 – Over 65 staff and students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak), as well as representatives from various organisations in Miri, gained interesting insights into the energy resources and industries within Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) at a forum held at the university recently.

Also attending were Curtin Sarawak’s Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski and his deputy, Professor Ir. Yudi Samyudia.

The forum, hosted by Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, saw Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) giving an overview of the corridor and its future development.

RECODA oversees the development of SCORE, one of five regional development corridors being developed throughout the country.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson spoke about the development of energy resources and related industries within the corridor and how they will help transform Sarawak into an industrial powerhouse by the year 2020.

According to him, SCORE aims to achieve the goals of accelerating the state’s economic growth and development, as well as improving the quality of life for the people of Sarawak. Its core industry is energy resources, particularly hydropower, coal and natural gas found abundantly within the Central Region of Sarawak.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson also fielded questions from the audience relating to environmental protection, workforce development and establishing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within SCORE.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson is widely known as a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with extensive experience in corporate and business affairs, business strategy and capacity planning and building, as well as economics, policy analysis, development planning and project management. He is also an accomplished speaker, delivering talks at numerous conferences and seminars.

Forum organiser and senior lecturer of electrical and computer engineering Dr. Garenth Lim King Hann said it was an honour for Curtin Sarawak to host such a distinguished public figure as Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson. He added that the forum certainly benefitted those students interested in pursuing careers in the SCORE industries.
