Nur Syahira sees her achievement as a good start in her journey as an aspiring fashion designer. She believes that the hardship faced along the way will better prepare her for the demands of the professional field.

She came out top for her wearable arts collection which is inspired by Yin & Yang. The concept  describes how opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected and independent in the natural world and how they rise to each other.

“Our lecturers were behind us all the way, they encouraged and helped us in this competition,” added Nur Syahira.

Judges for the awards were Stylo International president & CEO Datuk Nancy Yeoh, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia president & CEO Roland Folger, Matrade lifestyle section director Aureen Jean Nonis, MyCreative Ventures CIO Izwan Zainuddin, Encorp Strand Mall head Datin Hjh Sabrina Laila, A Cut Above Group of Salons & Academy founder & chief creative director Datin Winnie Loo, 2014 Designer of the Year & Bumiputera Designers Association (BDA) vice president Bon Zainal and Judy Raine (wife of Mark Raine, vice-president of sales & marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia).

Besides Nur Syahira, another MSU student qualified as finalist in this competition is Ungku Nur Anna Alysa  Abdul Majid. The concept of her design is the Japanese samurai armour. The history of the Japanese samurai armour intrigues her to introduce the characteristics into her designs. The materials for all the designs are mainly from the rubber tyre tubes and polyurethane fabrics to substitute the leather used in real samurai armour.

She’s previously emerged as a winner for The Killer Heels Competition, the competition organised in cordially with The Malaysia International Shoe Festival (MISF) 2015 in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, from 13th to 15th March 2015.

Nur Syahira and Ungku Nur Anna Alysa triumph is another feather to the graduate’s employability of MSU graduates.
