Combining both art and science to create more aesthetically pleasing environments, Nattavut Luenthaisong, Founder/ Creative Technologist Be> Our> Friend, Bangkok, Thailand leads a team of 30 to transform architecture and design with the magical touch of technology. He was at the POLYCON conference organised by The One Academy, sharing his experience and teaching students additional techniques that could further enhance their existing proficiency in the arts.

For centuries, art is known to be two dimensional, but now, the future has arrived and art has evolved in a way that is not only modern but also personalised and interactive. Nattavut and his team are involved any and every aspects of art that requires technology such as interactive installations, mobile application, architecture, packaging, branding, website, exhibition, environmental design and more.

When he established his company back in 2004 with two other friends with different backgrounds – graphic design, illustration and engineering, he was met with two challenges – to look for new clients and to manage his team as everyone is different from everybody else. What sets be>our>friends apart from others is their unique approach with clients where they will sit down with their clients to find the right process for each and every project.

Nattavut came to Malaysia recently to inspire The One Academy students through the POLYCON conference. In his Master Class, he taught students the be>our>friend’s reverse approach of the creative process which begins from computer sketching then ending with handcrafting methods. Students were asked to draw a flower from a computer software and they were later taught how to animate their flower through computer programming. In the class also, he discussed the ideas and methods behind the unconventional practice.

In the following two-day symposium, Nattavut showed some of his mind-blowing words that exhibits such luxury and grandeur through his projects - EMPORIUM RÊVE DE NOËL, Eathai, a food hall under the Central Embassy brand.

“I always believe that we should be a better version of ourselves every day,” said Nattavut . “I always ensure that I will do my future projects better than my current projects and my current projects better than my past projects and that is also my advice to The One Academy students.”

A fan of Greek mythology, Nattavut gets his inspiration mostly from travelling, learning a new culture, learning a new language, adopting a new art approach such as calligraphy and meeting new people. He also looks at everything with a critical eye, stay curious and to always question what he sees.

“I don’t believe in talent. For example, you can see someone doing something and you wonder how you do it. If you practice hard enough, you can do it too,” he said.

The POLYCON Conference which Nattavut was at is Malaysia’s first digital media and art festival where 18 international and local top creative practitioners imparted their skills and shared their work experiences through a series of masterclasses and a two-day symposium. This festival is results of The One Academy’s fervent belief and commitment for its ‘Masters Train Masters’ coaching philosophy.
