Miri – 23 October 2017 – Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tang Siew Fun as its new Dean of Learning and Teaching effective 4 October 2017.

Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski said Professor Tang has strong credibility as a Dean of Learning and Teaching with her impressive track record of strategic leadership and management and in driving innovative and pioneering learning and teaching initiatives.

Professor Mienczakowski added that with Professor Tang at the helm, he is confident Curtin Malaysia’s Office of Learning and Teaching is set to move forward quickly.

Meanwhile, Professor Tang said she is looking forward to working with her new colleagues and bring learning and teaching at Curtin Malaysia to greater heights.

“As educators, we need to learn how students learn and only with that, can we engage with them more effectively. I personally believe that students learn successfully if their teachers teach successfully,” she remarked.

She related that through the years, she has evolved from being a passionate excellent teacher to an effective educational leader helping to transform the learning and teaching landscape in the country by driving innovative and pioneering learning and teaching initiatives.

Professor Tang graduated with first class honours in Mathematics from Universiti Malaya in 1991, gained a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in 2000 and 2003 respectively, and a doctorate in educational management, planning and policy in 2012.

She is an expert in teaching strategic management, project management, organisational behaviour and statistics, as well as a teacher developer whose major work has focused on designing teaching evaluation processes and coaching systems, defining training plans, and developing students holistically.

In addition, she has been appointed as an assessor panel with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for mathematics and statistics since 2012, and her research work has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Tang’s last employment was with Taylor’s University where she held various academic and administrative positions over 18 years, from lecturer to programme director, then Director of its Integrated Teaching and Life-long Learning Centre (INTELLECT), and later as Dean of Learning and Teaching. Prior to that, she taught at other public and private universities in Malaysia and worked with two multinational companies.
