First City University College announces new Vice-Chancellor

Professor Dr Mak Chai has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of First City University College effective October 2017

Professor Dr Mak Chai has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of First City University College effective October 2017.

He graduated from University Malaya with the Bachelor of Science (Hons) and Master of Agriculture Science degrees and obtained his Ph.D. specialising in plant genetics from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada under the Commonwealth Scholarship.

He is a well-known scientist who has made significant contribution to Science and Technology, with more than 90 publications. He received the Malaysia Toray Science & Technology Award in 1998 and was admitted a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in 1999.

He has amassed 41 years of academic experience, commencing as a lecturer at University Malaya for 26 years before retiring as a professor, followed by 15 years in managing private higher institutions.

In addition, he has extensive working experience in international education collaboration and hands- on working experience in many Asian countries.

Before joining First City University College, Prof Dr Mak was the Vice-President (Academic & Administration) at Asia e University. He has also served as President & CEO of Sepang Institute of Technology, as well as Strategic Development Manager at KDU College.

In his inaugural address at the recent Graduation Ceremony of First City University College, he said “I am very honored and privileged to be invited to lead this innovative institution. It is exciting to face the emerging challenges and opportunities in an increasingly competitive environment. We have tremendous support from our local authorities, international university partners, professional bodies, industries and corporate organizations. I look forward to working with my outstanding faculties and executive team to ensure the success of our students and our staff.”

First City University College’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms Yeong Yin Cheng commented “A renowned academician, Prof Dr Mak shares our vision. His strategic and leadership experience shall lead FCUC to new heights”.
