Elysian – First City University College Diploma Students’ Graduation Showcase 2018

PETALING JAYA, 15th August 2018 – First City University College hosted the annual Diploma Graduation Showcase 2018 featuring works of art projects by 55 students from its Faculty of Design & Built Environment starting from Wednesday, 15th August until Friday, 17th August, 2018.

The ongoing three-day exhibition will showcase six (6) students’ creative artworks from Diploma in Interactive Design and thirty-nine (39) final year project presentations by students from the Diploma in Interior Design programme. The event was graced by First City UC’s Director, Y Bhg Prof Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Teo Chiang Liang, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mak Chai, Chief Operating Officer, Ms Yeong Yin Cheng, Dean Faculty of Design and Build Environment, Ms. Siow Yin Yoong, potential employers, corporate partners, faculty staff, students and parents.

The word ‘ELYSIAN’, meaning divine inspiration, is the theme for this event. The theme implies the students’ artistic approach to their creativity. The logo formed in the shape of triangles, symbolizes creativity and how the students were inspired during their studies in the field of design. The shapes of wings are related to imagination, thought, freedom and victory. Both these elements symbolize the effort of the students in discovering and manifesting their creative side at First City University and how it contributes towards a professional career.

The forty-five (45) outstanding creations produced by the diploma students, exploring the influence of their experiences and skills developed in First City UC over their final year project. The fourteen (14) weeks ‘LIVE’ projects proposed by a Creative and Communication industry partner were not only accomplished successfully but have also wowed the attended industry partners and other attendees.

Professor Dr. Mak Chai, First City UC’s Vice Chancellor, stated in his opening speech “To produce industry ready graduates has always been First City UC’s aim.” He also took the opportunity to thank the well-attended industry partners and sponsors for their support in contributions to make this event successful.

With more than two decades of academic excellence, First City UC takes pride in its design events by striving in commitment to meet the demand for creative designers by highlighting top notch graduates who will be assets to the design industry. The design programmes offers holistic design education, supported by highly professional academic staff and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter and Macintosh laboratories.

Nyo Jia Lin a student from the Diploma in Interior Design programme, shared that her experience in First City UC has been very rewarding with such platforms offered to exhibit their projects. To further enhance her skills, she looks forward to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior in Architecture Design in First City UC.

In addition to Diploma programmes, the Faculty of Design & Built Environment offers Bachelor’s Degree programmes in Interior Architecture & Design, Graphic Design, and Furniture & Product Design in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. First City UC also offers the first ever Bachelor’s Degree programme in Fashion Marketing in Malaysia, the Foundation in Art & Design programme and Master of Design Management.
