Curtin Malaysia holds friendly bowling match to strengthen ties with government bodies

Miri – 20 October 2018 – 48 bowlers from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and three government agencies recently took part in a Friendly Bowling Match hosted by the university recently.

The bowling match, which is held annually at Mega Lanes East Bintang Megamall, was a collaboration between the Student Services Department and student-run Curtin Bowling Club of the university.

The Miri Immigration Office, the Miri branches of Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) and National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Curtin Malaysia formed a total of 12 teams comprising four members each for the match aimed at strengthening cordial relations between the university and the agencies.

The event was opened by Curtin Malaysia's Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan. Also present were Miri Immigration Office director Mohammad Bin Osman and manager Nortina Puah; KWSP Miri officers Wilson Lanyau and Fikri Abu Talip; PTPTN Miri branch managers Mohammad Lutfie Mohd. Hafipi and Roney Ngalai; and Curtin Malaysia Student Services Department manager Audrey Palance.

In her welcoming speech, Professor Giridharan remarked that the annual match has proven highly fruitful in maintaining rapport with the government agencies the university works the closest with in providing student support and services.

She said it was also a good way of getting to know each other's staff and their roles in their respective organisations, as well as an opportunity for the university to show its gratitude to the agencies for their continued support.

Meanwhile Curtin Bowling Club advisor and associate lecturer Jameson Malang commended the club's committee members for their support in organising the match.

The top three teams were awarded medals, trophies and hampers. Coming up tops was 'Immigration B' comprising Mohammad Bin Osman, Nortina Puah, Andika Bin Tukiran and Raymie Nyambek.

'Immigration A' comprising Abdul Sophian, Mohd. Shahreen Bin Bahrin, Mohd. Faizal Bin Jamain and Norahimah Binti Mohamad came in second, while 'Good Day' from Curtin Malaysia comprising Frankie Sedi, Leslie Rissin, Adyline Tannai Saga and Jeremy Edison George placed third.

Andika was adjudged the Best Male Bowler while Nortina clinched the Best Female Bowler title.
