Yayasan Hartalega Sets Up Student Loan at TAR UC

In keeping with its mission and vision of providing quality and affordable education to all Malaysians, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) and Yayasan Hartalega joined hands on 23 October 2018 to pave the way for the establishment of the TARC – Yayasan Hartalega Student Loan (‘TYHSL’) under the TAR UC Student Loan Fund.

Yayasan Hartalega is very pleased to collaborate with TAR UC in establishing the TYHSL as it is in line with its vision of contributing towards enriching the quality of life of individuals and communities through impactful programs that focus on education, health and environment. For the purpose of this loan, Yayasan Hartalega will inject a contribution of RM500,000 to kick off the TYHSL.

Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, expressed his gratitude to Yayasan Hartalega for their generosity in setting up the TYHSL to provide a financial lifeline for the underprivileged students to pursue their studies at TAR UC. “We are truly grateful for Yayasan Hartalega’s generosity in setting up this student loan which will benefit many needy students in TAR UC. With this student loan, underprivileged students are able to pursue tertiary education which will provide them the means to create a better future for themselves.

We recognise that there are still segments in our society who are financially deprived and such financial assistance will certainly go a long way for those who are deserving,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei.

“Hartalega has always been active in CSR work for the community and environment in areas surrounding our operations, but with the incorporation of Yayasan Hartalega, we are now able to carry out more impactful and further reaching projects with special focus on education, health and environment. We are pleased to kick off Yayasan Hartalega’s first project with this collaboration with TAR UC on the student loan,” said Mr Kuan Mun Leong, Managing Director of Hartalega Holdings Bhd.

Successful applicants of the loan will receive up to RM12,000 per annum and it will be valid from the year of the award until the completion of the recipient’s programme of study. The validity of the loan is also subject to annual review of the recipient’s academic performance and conduct.

The TAR UC Student Loan Fund is one of the various choices of financial assistance that are made available for TAR UC students to widen access to TAR UC’s quality education. Set up in 1979, TAR UC Student Loan has 34 interest-free revolving student loan funds available to provide financial assistance to needy and deserving students to further their education. Since its inception, it has disbursed a total of close to RM32 million worth of student loans and benefited more than 12,000 students.
