An event to celebrate only the worthy and best of regional and international fashion designs, the annual Penang Fashion Week made its fifth comeback from 3rd to 5th May 2019 at Gurney Paragon. This year, invited guests and public audience were introduced to the Malaysian fashion scene through 13 runway shows featuring 30 collections from participating brands, as well as local and international designers, in aims to highlight diversity and innovation while connecting the fashion world.

The event also marked another year of recognition for ESMOD Kuala Lumpur as its new batch of graduates were invited as part of the entourage to display their personal graduation collections. ESMOD graduates shared the runway with some of the biggest names in the industry. Famous brands such as Michael Kors, Charles & Keith, Pedro, Chow Tai Fook and Tory Burch among a few others, served as the event’s grand opening.

A number of collections by ESMOD KL themed Dawn and Illogic graced the runway during their set, revealing a huge spectrum of cultural inspirations, colors, influences and personalities that trademark the unique styles of ESMOD KL fashion designers.

Dawn is the collection by fashion designers who have put their best foot forward. The team behind Dawn were inspired by the end of nightfall which brings light, signifying the beginning of a new journey and endless possibilities.

Illogic is the theme chosen by a group of aspiring fashion designers. Their theme is represented by the designers’ personalities and affinities mirrored in their designs, which is mesmerizing and unique in their own ways, but brings an illogical perspective to the beholder.

The winners who were previously crowned by ESMOD KL for Best Fashion Design – Ivanka Wu & Edric Wong, and Best Pattern Making – Tan Wei Ying & Liew Hui Ying, also showcased their winning collections on the runway, wowing the audience with a myriad of colours and unique designs.

The prestigious fashion platform also saw participations by esteemed designers Keith Kee, Michael Ooi, Bon Zainal and Samantha Chua, among many others. To be able to join in their leagues, the young and talented ESMOD designers have gained a valuable experience to boost their confidence, creativity and credibility. This event proved to be a great opportunity and stepping stone for these talented, promising designers as they step out into the fashion arena.

ESMOD, established more than 170 years ago, first started out as ESMOD Paris, the world’s first fashion design school. Founded in 1841 by Alexis Lavigne, master tailor and purveyor to the court of Empress Eugénie in France, ESMOD has grown an international network of 20 fashion design schools in 13 countries with every school applying the same top-notch syllabus as ESMOD Paris. Catering to the growing demand for an international fashion school in Malaysia, The One Academy joined the network as ESMOD KL to provide youths the best Parisian fashion design education locally.
