International Masterclass with Glen Keane, a Disney Legend

The One Academy is honoured to be hosting Glen Keane during his visit to Malaysia, where he will be conducting a masterclass on January 13, 2024 at EX8, Subang Jaya, to the academy’s students, alumni, industry professionals and secondary school students. He will be sharing his journey and vast knowledge in the animation industry, as well as a live demonstration on how to tap into creativity and how art can powerfully convey emotions.

Glen Keane is a veteran of Walt Disney Animation Studios with 50 years of experience, training under Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men. He is most notable for creating and bringing to life many beloved Disney characters such as Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Aladdin, The Beast, Tarzan, and Rapunzel in Tangled. He was the recipient of the 1992 Annie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in the Field of Animation for his work on Beauty and the Beast, and in 2007 he received the prestigious Winsor McCay Award for lifetime contribution to the field of animation.                                                  

Glen retired from Walt Disney in March 2012, founding Glen Keane Productions as a way to further his exploration of animation, design and film. He continues to animate, teach and inspire new generations of artists, and above all, he continues to draw. He has since collaborated with partners such as Google Spotlight Stories and the Paris Ballet.

His collaboration in 2017 with the late Kobe Bryant, ‘Dear Basketball’ based on a poem Bryant wrote on his retirement, received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards (Oscars). His animated feature ‘Over the Moon’ with Netflix and Pearl Studio, was released in 2020 and subsequently nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars).

Through this masterclass, the invaluable knowledge and insight presented will prove to be fruitful in the professionals and students’ pursuit of creative success and as the future talents of our country. It will be an entertaining event of reliving our nostalgic childhood animations and connecting with beloved iconic characters.
