Is a career in law right for you?

Law is a popular choice of course for many students – but is a career in law for right you? A career in law can be extremely rewarding – it challenges the intellect, inspires ideas, and gives you a chance to really make a difference. But you do need to be prepared to work long hours in a very competitive and stressful environment. Are you good at analysing situations and problems? Do you have a thirst for knowledge? Are you passionate about continual learning? Are you good at dealing with people? Are you detail-oriented, patient, pragmatic and dispassionate? If this sounds just like you, then law could be a good career pathway for you.

Law is about the principles and regulations of a government and the legislation that is recognised and upheld by the judiciary. Law students study the laws of this country and other countries to develop an understanding of the principles and practices of commercial law, criminal law and constitutional law.

What you will learn

Law

Legal studies develop your ability to organise facts and ideas in a systematic way, and in the process, identify relevant principles and evaluate them in order to formulate advice or legal argument for your client. You will study subjects like criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, English legal systems, law of evidence, international and comparative taxation law, corporate governance, corporation law, commercial law, intellectual property, jurisprudence and more.

Syariah Law

The sub-field of Syariah law introduces the historical and contemporary aspects of its development and applications in the Muslim world. You will study subjects like Qur’anic ayat and Hadith on law, Usul al-Fiqh, legal text, Asbab Al-Ikhtiaf, Fiqh Al-Muqarran fi al-Ahwal Al Shakhisiyyah, and Islamic law of evidence and procedure.
