Special care package for English competency test

Malaysian students applying to Malaysian colleges and universities from now until 31 December 2020 will be eligible to receive a partial sponsorship to sit for the Cambridge Linguaskill English competency test.

Sasbadi Holdings Berhad and Cambridge Assessment English Malaysia have launched a special care package for Malaysian students who are enrolling in the final quarter of 2020, but may be facing challenges in sitting for their English competency test due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to help students,” said Henry Law, Corporate Strategy Director at Sasbadi Group. “Due to the COVID-19 situation, it is inconvenient and stressful for students to travel to test centres to get their English competency tested.

“Furthermore, students who are currently stuck in suburban or rural areas may not have a test centre located near them. With Cambridge Linguaskill, we can now bring the English testing service to students, wherever they are located.”

Linguaskill by Cambridge Assessment English is a CEFR English competency test developed by Cambridge Assessment English, University of Cambridge. It is an online and computer-based test. Unlike other English competency tests in Malaysia, Cambridge Linguaskill can be administered anywhere, even at a student’s home. It is the only English competency test recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia that is remotely proctored, to date.

“Understandably, some students may be facing some financial difficulty during this time,” said Henry Law. “Through our special care package, we will sponsor part of the test fees for students who decide to sit for Cambridge Linguaskill for their university enrolment.”

Under the special care package, Sasbadi Group will sponsor RM260 out of the total Cambridge Linguaskill test fee. This means that qualified students will be able to take Cambridge Linguaskill at a lower price of RM350 instead of RM610.
