Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for Japanese Studies

The Embassy of Japan is pleased to announce that the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarships for Japanese Studies and Teacher Training is now open for application until 2nd February 2024. Qualified Malaysian nationals who would like to pursue their studies in Japan are invited to apply. During the term of scholarship, monthly allowances of approximately 117,000 yen (approx RM4,000) will be given to each Japanese Studies grantee, and 143,000 yen (approx RM4,600) to Teacher Training grantee (amount is subject to change). Fees for entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities will be exempted. A round-trip airplane ticket is also provided.

Requirements:
1. Japanese Studies (1-year non-degree course from October 2024)
a) Applicants must be between 18 and 29 years of age as of 1st April 2024 (born between 2nd April 1994 and 1st April 2006).
b) Applicants must be 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate students (must not be final year students) majoring in Japanese Language or Japanese Culture enrolled in non-Japanese
universities.
c) Applicants must have good command of Japanese Language.

2. Teacher Training (1½ year non-degree course from October 2024)
a) Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of 1st April 2024 (born on or after 2nd April 1989)
b) Applicants must be graduates of universities or teacher training college who work as teachers in primary or secondary schools or as academic staff at TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTIONS with at least 5-year experience in their terms of service.
c) Applicants must have good command of English language and are willing to learn Japanese language.
d) Application for Teacher Training Scholarship (Government school`s teacher) should be made to the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Kindly refer through MOE`s website/internal announcement for further information. For private school teacher, kindly email [email protected] for
application procedure.

The interviews for both programmes will be held on end of February 2024. The Embassy of Japan will notify qualified candidates only (by email) to attend the interview.
