The Embassy of Japan is pleased to announce that the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for the Young Leaders’ Program (YLP) is now open for application until 27 September 2019.
Malaysian nationals who would like to pursue their Master’s degree courses in Japan are invited to apply for the scholarships. During the term of the scholarship, a monthly allowance of approximately 242,000 yen (subject to change) will be given. Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at the universities will be exempted. A round-trip airplane ticket is also provided.
Course duration is principally one (1) year from October 2020 to September 2021 (except for Business Administration Course, the commencement of the program is from September 2020 to August 2021). Courses will be conducted in English language.

- Business Administration Course
(Recommending Authority: National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia) - Law Course
(Recommending Authorities:- Public Service Department of Malaysia;
- Faculty of Law, International Islamic University Malaysia)
- School of Government Course
(Recommending Authority: Public Service Department of Malaysia) - School of Local Governance Course
(Recommending Authority: Public Service Department of Malaysia) - Medical Administration Course
(Recommending Authority: Ministry of Health, Malaysia)
Requirements:
- Malaysian citizens with degrees.
- For Business Administration Course, applicants must:-
- be below 40 years old as of 1st September 2020;
- have good command of English language (minimum TOEFL score of 600/ TOEFL-CBT score of 250 or equivalent) with GMAT score result ; and
- have at least 3 years’ working experience.
- For the other 4 courses, applicants must:-
- be below 40 years old as of 1st October 2020;
- have good command of English language (minimum TOEFL score of 550/ TOEFL-iBT score of 80/ IELTS 6.0 or equivalent); and
- have at least 3 years’ working experience in government offices (in the case of Health Administration Course, working experience in Ministry of Health Malaysia) (for Law Course, at least 4 years’ working experience including experience of handling law-related affairs in Malaysia).
Application Process:
August ~ September | Submit application form to respective Recommending Authorities by due date. |
February (following year) | Interview. Only successful candidates will be notified to attend the interview. |
May~June | Notification of final result. |
September or October | Depart to Japan. |
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Applications must be submitted to the respective Recommending Authorities. Late submissions will not be entertained no matter what reasons are given.
- Applications without sufficient documents (stated in the guidelines) will not be considered.
- Submitted application forms and documents will not be returned, whatever reasons given.
- The decision on successful candidates made by the Embassy of Japan is final. Any queries on the final decision will not be entertained.
