About Us
Equator College; a recognised brand name as the leading art, media, and design college in northern Malaysia since 1987.
We have two campuses situated in the heart of George Town, Penang. The college offers qualified students well-structured programmes of study with up-to-date curricular as well as comprehensive training to fulfill the demands of the art, media, and design industries.

Classes are kept small (ratio 1:25) to ensure that lecturers are able to focus on the individual style of their students in order to encourage the best possible performance.
Our team of academic staff, both local and foreign, are well-trained, with many having professional experience in their respective fields. Using a student-centered approach to teaching, our lecturers do not only inspire the spirit of excellence in their students, they also lead by example by going public in exhibiting their own work.
On top of a conducive learning environment, the management of Equator provides the right infrastructures such as high-end computers and industry-standard software as well as numerous books, journals, and magazines to keep students up-to-date with the demands of modern industries. The management is also supportive and open to suggestions towards improvement.
All our programmes are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) via the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Academic Resources & Student Support Service
Both the Leith Street and Amoy Lane campuses are fully air-conditioned. EC has lecture rooms and halls, lecture theatres, computer and multimedia studios; art and design studios, a photographic studio, specialty workshops, a well-equipped library, a gallery to display works of art as well as free Internet and WiFi access for staff and students.
For chill out time, students are able to use the pool table and ping pong table (table tennis). There are student sports clubs that arrange the use of outside facilities. Hostel facilities are given on a needs basis. A student counsellor is available for both local and international students.
Student Development Activities for Employability & Student Experience
At Equator, we believe there should be a balance between work and play. As such, there is a good variety of student clubs and societies for our students. A wide range of exciting indoor activities as well as plenty of opportunities to embark on educational trips await the inquisitive and adventurous souls. These activities enable students to discover new interests, make observations, work in groups and relate to one another, but most importantly, they allow our students to have fun while enhancing their experience relating to the industry.

 Y.Bhg. Dato’ Chuah Kooi YongChairman , Equator College Mission in LifeDato’ Chuah had a vision to set up a pre-university college to cater to the more aesthetically minded students. By his establishment of Equator College he has made it possible for all the interested students to study the subjects of their choice. His main objectives to cultivate the creative minds of futures – to train young school leavers to spearhead the nation’s need for a better class of quality driven artistic designers. With the vast experience in the art and design discipline, Dato’Chuah always been far-sighted and having the students’ best interest at heart. Contributions to Equator CollegeEquator College has provided scholarships amounting to more than a few millions Ringgit to assist the outstanding, but financially burdened students to pursue relevant courses, and in turn, the students being able to contribute to society. Dato’ Chuah has invested millions of ringgit to make Equator a better educational institute for the students by equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities and up-to-date curriculum. Moreover, the college is conducted by dedicated and experienced teaching team, comprises both full-time lecturers and industrial professional who work as either part-time lecturers or external examiners. Equator College has produced competent and highly sought-after employable graduates who able to meet relevant industry needs. Most graduates even performed exceptionally well overseas, by receiving high distinction degrees, first class honours degrees, Masters and Doctorates. Contributions to the Education IndustryEquator College is one of the most established and renowned art, media, and design college in Malaysia. For Dato’ Chuah more than 32 years of unrelenting dedication to provide continuing education and services to the art community as he was acknowledged by the Royal Society of Arts U.K. with their fellowship carrying their FRSA title. He constantly donates his own salary to charitable organizations to helping others, from raising funds to building a new school wing, to donating substantial amounts of money to help the Tsunami victims.
