Institution Profile

(IIUM) was established in 1983 under the Government of Malaysia's Company Act that has hence allowed the University to use English as the medium of instruction in all of its faculties. Supported by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and several Muslim countries, IIUM is the fruition of one of the major aspirations of the contemporary global Muslim community, which is to regain the ummah's leadership in the quest for knowledge. Currently IIUM consists of four campuses : The Gombak campus is located on a 288-hectare site in Gombak near Kuala Lumpur. The Kuantan Campus, which houses the Science, Medical & Health Kulliyyahs, is located on a 400 - hectare site in Kuantan on the East Cost of Peninsular Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur campus is made up of two locations: with the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) located at Persiaran Duta, Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur and the IIUM Institute for Islamic Banking and Finance located at Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur.

The treatment that I have gotten since I came to Malaysia makes me certain that I made the right decision. I love the food and the nature of Malaysia. Malaysia is a free country and it is very obvious from the way that the multicultural community lives in harmony and peace. I love Malaysia and Malaysia Boleh!

Haris Bin Akram, India

Bachelor of Biomedical Science, 4 years

Malaysia is a nice country to study in. It is relatively cheap; the food is good and halal. The people are more open than people in other countries. It is truly a uniquely diverse country in terms of the variety of culture and people present in this peaceful country. The equipment in the laboratories is world class and the connectivity to the rest of Malaysia is good because of the good public transport system.
