Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established on 10 January 1997 and is a leading private university in Malaysia.

The campus is built on a 400 hectare (1,000 acres) site strategically located at Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia. The university is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, the national oil and gas company of Malaysia.

UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science and technology programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It aims to produce well-rounded graduates with excellent leadership qualities and communication abilities.

The university conducts extensive research activities in collaboration with PETRONAS and other institutions and industries, locally and abroad, on six research focus and niche areas. They are self-sustainable building, transport infrastructure, health analytics, hydrocarbon recovery, contaminant management and autonomous system.

UTP has produced more than 15,000 graduates and currently has an enrolment of over 1,200 foundation students, 6,000 undergraduates and 1,200 postgraduates from more than 60 countries around the world.

About UTP Vice Chancellor
Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS since 1 November 2012. Abdul Rahim graduated in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from University of Birmingham, UK in 1976 and later received an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from the same university. As a professional engineer, he was previously the Chairman of the Engineering Accreditation Council, Malaysia and sat in the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Abdul Rahim reported duty in PETRONAS in September 1976, and his last position was the Vice President of Research and Technology Division from 2006 – 2008. Prior to that, Abdul Rahim was the Vice President of Gas Business (2002 – 2006), Vice President of Human Resource Management (1998 – 2002) and CEO of PETRONAS Penapisan Melaka (1991 – 1998). Abdul Rahim is currently the President of the Malaysian Gas Association, President of Asia-Pacific Natural Gas Vehicle Association, immediate past-president of the International Gas Union from 2012 to 2015. He is also an associate member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Commissioner of the Energy Commission, Malaysia and a member of the National Science & Research Council, Malaysia.

This is my third year of studies in UTP. I found that the lecturers here are very supportive and delivered the syllabus accordingly. However, I strongly feel that as a student, we need to have our own initiative to search and do our homework to gain extra knowledge. The tutorial session for practicing exercises is also good as it will assist the students who need further understanding on the subject they learn. The 8 months Industrial Internship Programme is also another advantage where the students will be exposed to hands-on training and knowledge during their attachment to the Industry.
